craft fair

Keiron, Jane and I (Mary) had a wonderful time yesterday at the Craft and contemporary art fair at the Bluecoat. We had a table selling handmade Christmas cards, books, and screen printed bags, and original prints. The weather held out most of the day, just very cold really, and the place was buzzing with people.

We'll be there again next Saturday, so please stop by! The fair is open from  11-5.

Hope everyone is well and hopefully we'll be in the studio soon! I think it's my turn to pay, so I'll book the room, perhaps for the 3rd?

logo and book arts

Hi everyone!

Here's the final logo, let me know what you think. I think it's pretty solid.

Also, I'm going to book the print studio for August 25th & 26th for the book arts demo. That's a Tuesday and Wednesday. Emma is starting a skills share project and this is my show&tell turn. It's open to anyone who is either in the illustrators group or to anyone who wants to be a part of the skills share project. We get two sessions in the studio for this, so I'll be running the workshop twice.
See you all tomorrow in the studio!

-Mary

logos...to be finished

I need feedback! What do people think? I'd be happy using several different designs, because I don't think we need just one logo for all that we may do. Please, comment and I will use the information to create two or three final designs. Thanks!
Above: for the blog/website?
ps. I will probably post more as time goes by...

I know, these don't convey just how many people were there! It is a beautiful show and we had a wonderful night. Thanks to everyone who came (and despite the miserable weather).

Ness Gardens is lovely - I went about 13 years ago. We'd need a mini bus!! Shall we go to the Palm house in sefton park then, it's probably the easiest for everyone to get to. This is an 'Elizabeth Blackadder' print.

Gardens...

Here are two other spots that sound really interesting and would be great to check out. I've been to the Wildflower Centre in the early spring, so it was pretty bare, but I bet now it is full of interesting flowers. Neither of these are free and they are both out of the city centre. Ness gardens in the Wirral.

If these are too far, then I would love to just meet at Sefton Palm House (right near me) or Calderstones, which sounds cool.

I'm not able to join you all next Tuesday (July 21), but I will be ready for Tuesdays after that!

-Mary

Palmhouse? or the greenhouses and gardens at Calderstones...

I'd like to propose a drawing day involving botanical subject matter, I have been inspired by Elizabeth Blackadder's prints. Anyone know of a good place to do this?

Here's an unrelated image of mine

I am very much looking forward to fridays exhibition at Editions, I would also like to thank Olwen and Steve for getting are work hung for the show. I hope this will be the first of many exhibitions for the Liverpool illustrators.

Regards

Keiron Finnetty

If anyone wants to join Emma Gregory in the Print Studio at the Bluecoat on Monday morning 20 July at 10am she will be demonstrating the registration of more than one relief block to create a multicoloured lino print. She will show how to offset a key stencil onto a second block for cutting and how to print 2 blocks in quick succession using the Kento method. This is part of the Skills Share project. For more details please chat with Emma.

this is a lot longer than i planned

Hi everyone,

Jane, thanks for the submission info! Here is another that I have found: http://www.ameliasmagazine.com/ about a climate change poster. I wish I could do nothing but make work for these types of things, but there is so much to do!

I would also really like to hire the studio for a few weeks. If there are six of us, thirty pounds each would give us another six weeks, though I won't be able to afford it if there are less people going in on it, too. Thirty pound is pretty much my limit right now. So who else is interested?

Just a reminder about the show at Arena tomorrow (Thursday) night. I plan to go because the work should be really good and it'd be good to check out the space. Does anyone have work they would like to submit for a group show there? I have several pieces ready to go!

Hope everyone's having a superb week.

-Mary

Round Up

Hi All.

There 2 opportunities to submit work for online mag newsugar. http://newsugar.co.uk
Either might appeal, Hmmm, I think they could use some more actual GOOD illustration... Looks like good exposure.

I am proposing we rent the print space for another 6 weeks, by the way.
Somebody else's turn to post?
Jane.

Think Ink

Hi. Shame I had to leave promptly again today, I thought we managed OK in the print studio without supervision. So... We have options to consider on the pink/ blue intaglio ink.
I need to order some stuff from TN Lawrence, and can add a couple of tubes on to arrive later this week I think, IF a couple of people get back to me. Looking at the options my pref is Lawrence's own 'French 88', Prussian Blue and Ruby madder @ £7.95 and £9.75/ 150 ml, we could even add a yellow for future projects if anyone wants to invest.
Let me have your thoughts, you can view the stock here:

organize!

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone had a nice weekend. I was thinking about our next six weeks in the studio and thought that it would be smart to organize it a bit. Because Jane and Lou mentioned demonstrating silkscreening and gum arabic transfers, maybe they can pick specific weeks so that we all know what's up. Doesn anyone else want to give a sort of workshop? I'm interested in using photographs for printmaking, if anyone (like Rhonda?) is willing to teach me!

What do you think?

See you Tuesday!

-mary

ps. I will try to make muffins for our last class :)

Message from Emma

Emma asked me to post this on our blog:

I've had a brief chat with Owen at Editions Ltd. of Cook Street. She has exhibition space for you from 9 July for 3 weeks approx. She will do mailout and pv card if you supply the mailing list. Her percentage on sales is reasonable. Four medium frames each. I'm willing to advertise it through the Bluecoat and print studio brochures. Am thinking of calling it The Magnificent Seven. Does this clash with Phil's proposal and what do you all think? Decision by end of Tuesday next week please. X Emma

Mary says: This is great! A wonderful opportunity and I think we should accept. Doesn't need to clash with the Go Pink/Blue exhibition, but we may need to decide whether or not to propose a show at Arena still.

What are everyone's thoughts?

And we begin

Hello! Just thought it would be nice to start out with a print. Oh, I can't wait to see what everyone posts and it would be great to see the work people are doing outside of the course as well, wouldn't it?
